Farms Director - South & South West England
Having left the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester in 1987, Richard joined the Velcourt Management Training Scheme and worked on farms in Warwickshire and East Kent for two years. In 1989, Richard was appointed Farm Manager on a 550 hectare farm in Suffolk growing cereals and sugar beet. He then moved in 1992 to a new Velcourt business in Wiltshire which comprised 1,000 hectares and 300 dairy cows.
In 1993, he was appointed Farms Director for Velcourt Limited and now has responsibility for the South and South West of England and leads a team of eight Farm Managers. Enterprises include cereals, dairy cows as well as Estate Management.
Velcourt's Agronomy Service in the South West was initiated in 1994 and now extends to 9,000 hectares. Tim Mayhew heads up this enterprise.
Richard is responsible for procuring Velcourt's seed fertiliser and pesticide requirements and manages the relationships between manufacturers and distributors. Company promotion is also co-ordinated from Richard's office in Wiltshire.
