Livestock Technical Director

Robbie left Dorset Agricultural College in the early eighties and became an assistant herdsman progressing to head herdsman on a local farm. In the late eighties he took up the position of Livestock manager and when Velcourt Ltd. took over the management in 1992 he continued this position working for them. He then managed various livestock farms in both Devon and Dorset.

He was promoted to Senior Livestock manager in 2002 and then became Livestock Technical Director in 2004. He currently oversees all of Velcourt’s livestock units in the UK and in Eastern Europe and has recently overseen an eleven hundred cow dairy unit in Central Portugal, which included improving the business in preparation for its sale.

Robbie’s responsibilities include giving technical, physical and nutritional advice to all Velcourt’s dairy farm and livestock managers, which equates to around six thousand dairy cows and fourteen thousand breeding ewes. He has a team of four farmer managers which report directly to him. He also provides a technical advisory service to other livestock farmers (4,000 cows) which include a unique weekly reporting system, analysis and strategic advice on restructuring milk marketing and animal welfare as well as nutrition herd health, efficiencies and margins.

Robbie is also responsible for procuring all animal feeds and livestock consumables as well as produce marketing.
