Environmental Policy

Velcourt recognises the need to consider its responsibilities with respect to the environment whilst striving to achieve the highest standards of food production to meet the demands of the modern consumer.

Resource procurement and usage

  • As users of energy and water, environmental issues should be taken into account when purchasing such goods and services. Optimal, efficient and, where possible, renewable resource use should be practised at all times across the full range of the Company's operations.

Waste management and disposal

  • Consideration should be given to minimise the generation of agricultural wastes arising as a result of farming activities. Where possible such waste should be reused or recycled and if that is not possible, should be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Risk management

  • Environmental risks should be minimised by employing appropriate, safe technologies and practices. The maintenance of high standards will be ensured though employee training. All parties working for and on behalf of the Company commit Velcourt to the promotion of good environmental practices.

Legislation and cross-compliance

  • Velcourt's activities should at all times conform to relevant national and international legislation and industry standards. Regular contact should be maintained with all regulatory bodies (e.g. DEFRA, the Environment Agency and the RPA) to ensure awareness of any changes to Regulations.

Conservation and environmental enhancement

  • In recognising a responsibility for the protection and, where possible, enhancement of biodiversity and wildlife habitats, the Company considers the integration of formal Stewardship Schemes into its farm management systems where appropriate. Velcourt is committed to sustainable agriculture through its support of the Voluntary Initiative and as an active member of LEAF.
