Farms Director - East Anglia & South East


On graduating from Newcastle University with a BSc in Agriculture in 1979, Douglas joined the Velcourt Management Training Scheme and worked on a farm in Herefordshire for two years before being appointed as farm manager in Lincolnshire. In 1986 he moved to Suffolk to manage a farm growing combinable crops, sugar beet, potatoes, onions and carrots with irrigation.

In 1991, he was appointed Farms Director for Velcourt Ltd.. and now has responsibility for East Anglia and the South East of England, and leads a team of ten managers. Enterprises include potatoes, sugar beet, onions, parsnips, combinable crops, top fruit and dairy cows.
 

Responsibilities

Douglas is responsible for procurement of Velcourt's tractor and machinery fleet and negotiating preferential terms for contract hire or outright purchase. He is also responsible for central purchasing of energy and telecommunications.
