An evaluation of the agronomic benefit of applying aerobically-digested fish waste (ADF) to wheat crops in place of fertilizers derived from ammonium nitrate compounds/ urea. Funded by Marine Fisheries Agency, a department within DEFRA.
The project will run for 18 months and covers 6 trial sites in Lincolnshire. 3 contrasting soil types are incorporated in the trials design as well as 2 different preceeding crops.
A nitrogen dose rate response trial is being carried out in each trial, with and without the fishwaste compost. This will help us to determine the nitrogen contribution to the crop from the fishwaste.
A thorough sampling scheduling is on going to look at soil nitrogen and the release pattern from the compost.
The consortium for this project comprises Velcourt R&D, Velcourt Ltd. and OrrTec Ltd..
