Former Chief Scientist to judge Velcourt’s top managers

Professor Sir John Beddington to judge the Velcourt Farm Competition

Velcourt are delighted that Professor Sir John Beddington has kindly agreed to judge the final of this year's farm competition.  In order to prepare a shortlist of finalists for the competition, Chief Executive James Townshend and Chairman Robin Malim visit each of Velcourt’s 37 farm managers and look at all aspects of the farming business including profitability, husbandry of crops and livestock, business development and commitment to sustainable farming practices.

Sir John was appointed as Government Chief Scientific Adviser (GCSA) on 1st January 2008 and retired earlier this year.  Throughout 2008 and 2009 Sir John raised the concept of the "Perfect Storm" of food, energy and water security in the context of climate change, gaining considerable media attention and raising this as a priority in the UK and internationally.

Judging of the finalists will take place in early July and a feature article on the winner will follow shortly.
