New dairy showcased at university farm

Velcourt Livestock Director Robbie Taylor and the management team at Bristol University welcomed over 70 local farmers and business people to the inaugural open evening at the newly developed Wyndhurst Dairy Farm.  Farm tours looking at the objectives of the project, the design of the new facilities and a walk round the site were accompanied by talks on farm management, veterinary research, animal welfare and student interaction.

David Hichens the velcourt farm manger led the discussion on managing a project such as this in the extreme weather conditions of the last 12 months and how he and his team have coped running a successful business within a large scale building project.  There was much discussion around some of the innovation with cow housing and the high levels of welfare consideration that were given to developing a facility that can be run as a commercial venture whilst delivering a world class education to the next generation of veterinary surgeons.

The evening concluded with a buffet and drinks reception in the main university building where Jo Price the head of the School addressed the group thanking all those involved in the development and running of the farm and laid out her vision for the facility and the vet school in the future.
