Velcourt betting on black in Romanian farmland expansion

Velcourts Richard Williamson talks with Eric Jackson of Global Trader about expanding into the Romanian farming market.

In the classic American comedy series The Beverly Hillbillies, Jed Clampett and his kin got all excited about the discovery of ‘black gold’ or ‘Texas tea’ on their homestead, which elevated them to millionaire status with a palatial home in Los Angeles.

The find in question, of course, was oil, which is still the currency of wealth all these years on. But a British company based in the quiet backwater of Much Marcle in Herefordshire, is banking on a rich, black resource of a different nature to boost its business, and rather than America the precious substance is in the emerging European market of Romania.
