Students are up to the Challenge

The Newcastle University team of Jonathan Scholey, Robert Baker, Nick Peters and Henry Ward won the Cereals Challenge competition organised by Velcourt and Hitchinsons.

Lincoln University and Harpers Adams University College took second and third places. The winners received £1,000, to be split between the team, and the £500 for their university.

Each team had been managing a plot of winter wheat since February in terms of agronomy and selling a portion of the crop. Judges, Dick Neil, Hutchinsons, Keith Norman, Velcourt and David Knott, MD of Patrick Dean, Cereals host farmer, took into account the quality of their decisions, crop potential and profit.
