Open Farm Sunday

‘LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) Open Farm Sunday is the farming industry’s national open day. Visit a farm on Open Farm Sunday on 10th June 2018 and discover the world of farming. Find out about the story behind our food and how farming affects our everyday lives.’

A number of Velcourt managed farms will be taking part in this year’s Open Farm Sunday, throwing open their gates and welcoming visitors to showcase activities on farm, two of which are outlined below.

Yattendon Estates in Berkshire will be displaying all of their current machinery alongside similar machines from the 1960’s & 70’s and there will be opportunities to learn about the science in farming with Courtyard Partnership.  There will be tractor & trailer rides and two neighbouring farms will be bringing some sheep and turkeys!  There will also be a Christmas tree display with all the machinery used in that enterprise.  Hog roast and refreshments, free entry and all proceeds to Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

Clinton Devon Estate near Sidmouth will also be open this Sunday with farm tours looking at milking, a foot trimming demonstration, cattle handling and slurry management.

There will be stalls with refreshments from local suppliers, industry stalls from the vets’ practice, static machinery to look at and a raffle with proceedings going to Farm Community Network charity.

Finally, there will be an “Expert” hub featuring question and answer sessions on various topics, a guess the weight of the calf competition and interesting led nature and field walks.
