April 2018 - Velcourt

Whilst moving a Kongskilde Germinator between farms, the left hand wing section unfolded onto the grass verge when going round a roundabout. Thankfully no one or any vehicles were involved in the incident; the only damage was to one bracket on the machine. The operator called for assistance and using Hi-vis vests and flashing lights, the tractor and implement were recovered from the carriageway and moved to an adjacent field gateway for safer inspection.

Upon investigation, it appeared the three-way hydraulic valve was in the wrong position which allowed the oil to flow back and the machine to unfold. The operator was not aware that there were three positions on the valve and there were no markings or decals on the machine to notify him of this.

All staff have been reminded about the three positions of the valve and how/when to use them. The ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ for this machine have now been updated and issued to all staff. New decals have also been ordered from the main dealer and the valve marked in the meantime.

Whilst scraping out the cubicles at a dairy, the game keeper passed by close to the scrape channel. The tractor weight hit the side of the truck damaging.
